2005 - Note: I was a huge WarCraft II fan back in 1996. This was really the first time I tried making mods. Strangely, I never did end up likely WarCraft III that much.
Return to the world of WarCraft, where the battle between the evil Orcs and the noble Humans rages on. With powerful new allies, terrifying new creatures and ingenious new weaponry, the struggle for the domination of Azeroth continues. (From the back of the WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness game box.)
WarCraft II is arguably the best game of 1995. For those that have not played WarCraft II yet, what are you waiting for go buy it and start playing. This game is simply incredible.
However, as good as WarCraft II is as a stand alone game, the real
purpose of WarCraft II is to play it as a multi-player game. I would
like to applaud Blizzard, the creator's of WarCraft and WarCraft II, for
including modem support for their games. Bullfrog should pay
attention! The best multi-player game in the world is useless if the
majority of the public cannot play it!
Now with that introduction out of the way, let's talk about a variant of multi-player gaming that I feel is overlooked. Cooperative gaming. There is nothing quite like getting pinned down and running out of bullets just as your buddy bursts through the door, guns blazing, and saves your hide. Nor is there any replacement for heroically blasting that Cyberdemon that was licking your friends in a fire fight.
I prefer cooperative games over head-to-head play. Since I don't own a network of my own I am
limited to two player modem games. With this in mind, I have decided to create some two
player cooperative scenarios for WarCraft II using the map editor included with the game. Here are the scenarios:
